Wheels for Heath Campaign

Staff Sgt Heath Calhoun, a native of Buchanan County, graduated from the local Grundy High School in 1997.

While serving in Irag on November 7th, 2003, his Humvee was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade, and the young soldier lost both legs.

Our chapter along with many in the local community raised over $36,000.00 to purchase a specially equipped vehicle for the Calhoun family. The Veterans administration paid for alterations to adapt to Heath's special needs.

Member Janie Owens, who is the Chapter National Defense Chairman, spearheaded the effort regionally, beyond Buchanan County.

Currently we are working to fund Heath and his parents trip to Washington, DC Continental Congress in July to accept his award. Contact us at right if you'd like more information.
